Roadkill

AAh middle age. My daughter has embarked upon creating domestic bliss and motherhood. She snatched adulthood. I took my hands off of her journey. Both of us have grown by my letting go.

Your children are not  your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you.....
-Kahill Gilbran

For the first time in my life, I am embracing and enjoying my now. Although in my recent past I have talked of living in the moment, I am finally trying to do it.

I have not only returned to Yoga but I am enrolled in the Teacher training program. I enrolled more to work on me than with the goal of teaching a class. It is teaching me to pay attention to everything. To what people say, my words, attitudes, what I consume, how I spend my time and with whom.

The 2004 election & Shrub changed my life. The love of my country, forced me off the sidelines. I had to get involved. I became a progressive activist. I went through DFA training; became a local Committee person; served as a Treasurer for a Township Supervisor candidates; a wrote checks for the candidates I supported. Finally, I took on leadership role in a progressive think tank. How do I have time to work? I love it.

Along the way I have encountered some intriguing folks. Enter stage left, a candidate for the 2008 election. The party and office are irrelevant to this story.

I usually attend political events with my dear friend. On this evening, I attended this event solo. I arrived fifteen minutes after the start time and the place was packed. It was the final main local event before the 2007 election. As soon I walked in, our eyes met. We both smiled. It was a weird instant chemistry. The crap really bad Lifetime movies are made of but it was stunning. Have I met this man before? Who is this handsome man? I have met so many people at the events, I struggled to remember.

I chatted with several of my neighbors, fellow hell raisers and the candidates. When the host gathered us in the living room for the speakers, there was a seat on the couch next to him. He saw me leaning against the wall and offered me seat. At first I begged off, but when I saw that all the candidates would speak, I accepted the invitation. OK, I accepted because he was a hottie and I was wearing heels. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I thanked him and we introduced ourselves. He handed me a few of his palm cards. "You seem to know people, you can help me with my campaign." He confessed to watching me with intrigue throughout the evening. I was grateful for the seat because ALL of candidates spoke, along with a few party regulars.  It was amusing, because he seemed to move closer as the evening continued.

As our conversation continued after the speakers, several people came up to kiss his ring. He was a political player. If I got involved in his campaign, it would be my first state election. We switched cards and promised  to stay in touch.

I guess a week or so passed before I heard from him. We exchanged e-mails and he invited me to a local fundraiser as his guest. The governor was slated to appear, not a bad place to be.

He said, he would be late but informed his chief of staff to seek me out until he arrived. He showed up as the event was breaking up. He worked the room like a pro. Hugs, kisses and handshakes. When he completed his mission, we went to a local pub to have a snack.

We talked for hours. He is a self-made millionaire, smart funny, on the sane side of politics.
He will serve his constituents well. It would just lovely, if not for.....drum roll, please.... the wife and kids. It is the usual crap, no sex or intimacy at home. He doesn't want to leave for financial or political reasons.  So predictable, so not my drama.

I left the pub thinking that I would support his campaign but that would that....

Surprisingly, he called, wrote and even showed up on my doorstep. I give him credit for persistence. He thought it through. He was not concerned about a possible scandal. To his surprise, I did not want to get involved in his fantasy driven melodrama. "If you get bored, you can always walk away with no hard feelings" he suggested. I wonder if he actually listened to words flowing from his mouth. It never occurred to him that I didn't want a scandal. My now, was meaningless to him. Helloooo, there is a person here. He was setting up a scandal before he was elected. Dumbass

Any time you get naked with another human, a piece of your soul is left between the sheets.
I recommended that he find his way back to his wife. Maybe there is a reason, she doesn't want to sleep with him.

Or, find someone else to cast in his Lifetime fantasy.

In these manufactured relationships, the woman playing the supporting role is usually the roadkill left under the tires of the late model BMW. I am so not interested.

Sex and the Hypocrites

Great piece by Suburban Guerrilla:

Don’t ya think? Oh, those wacky Republicans!

In June, Tim Droogsma, a former press secretary to a US senator and a Minnesota governor, told the Star Tribune after reading its sex relationships column: “I don’t think I’m too prudish — which, I realize, is what prudes always say — but do we really want this sentence: ‘She hopped on my lap, facing forward. I pulled up her skirt in the back, slid her panties out of the way, and unzipped’?” Droogsma was arrested this week in a midafternoon prostitution sting.

Check out the rest.....

War on Sex

Bush & the neocons campaigned on bringing "dignity" back to the White House. I guess we have to agree on the definition of "dignity."

I really couldn't give a crap about Clinton & Moncia or Vitter's need to purchase sex. The sex scandals become worse when it involves a cover up or a sanctimonious hypocrite.

This mindless war on sex takes time away from the real issues: our whacked relationship with China, Iraq, Iran, affordable education, available health care, and living wage employment.

I must wonder when these women will stop the press conferences for their straying husbands?

As I posted on Suburban Guerilla's site earlier this week, my prayer is that Joe Lieberman is caught up in this mess. I get warm all over just thinking about it.

Lock up your children

The Booman speaks:

"I wish there was a way to convince the vast majority of Americans that people that run for political office on a platform of addressing some defect in society's sexuality almost definitely have something wrong with their own sexuality...and should not be trusted around children. I don't really care if you are some kind of pervert as long as you keep everything consensual and don't dabble with underage people. If you want to use an escort service, it's really none of my business...I just hope you are courteous and don't cause a disturbance. But, it seems like there is an unhealthy correlation between those that rail against homosexuality and those that pick up underage boys. Or between those that talk about the sanctity of marriage and abstinence and those that cheat on their wives and molest their daughter's friends. If you see a headline that a politician has done something illegal with a child you can bet the politician was a Republican. It's not that there aren't Democratic sexual deviants, it's just the vast majority of creeps and predators are members of the GOP. And they're hypocrites."

The problem with sex

This gem was brought to you by the neon gods.

Until the sex police find another occupation, we will not deal with real issues facing our society. Messing with kids and rape are not negotiable. Consensual sex acts are something completely different. The recipient was 17 at the time of the incident. A 15 year provided the deed. Should kids really shouldn't be having sex. Shouldn't. 10 years in jail is a tad excessive for two teenagers doing what they do.

Our congress does not have the stomach to impeach Bush for his numerous "high crimes and misdemeanors" but had no problem impeaching Clinton for his consensual sex act.

Will all of the men folk who would NOT participate in such an activity please step to the right.

Funny no movement.....

Sex strikes again

It is amazing how much trouble powerful men manage to get into for a booty call.

Obama would be proslavery??? WTF???

The discussion of Obama's blackness has officially made me crazy. Is there a discussion of John McCain's "whiteness?"

Why on earth, is anyone who is not old, white with a penis, be subjected to this type of analysis? It is absurd.

Just when I thought this dialogue has reached it's peak, William Kristol's chimes in. He takes the most outrageous position the right can embrace. To suggest, Obama would have taken Stephen Douglas position on slavery is ridiculous.

According, the rules set forth by the white folks at the time, all you had have is a drop of black blood in your system to be officially black. Need I remind you of the mulatto slaves running around Thomas Jefferson's plantation? Obama may have been a house slave, but he still would have a been slave. If he stepped out of line, his nice house niggra clothes would have been stripped from him, then he would have been horsewhipped. Depending on his skillset, he MAY have returned to the big house.

Let's not even talk about sex. There is longstanding fear of the sexuality of the black man. Maybe this is Kristol's underlying fear? Maybe, this is all of those white guy's fear. Here is this fine brother who could be the most powerful man on the planet.

Power is an aphrodisiac. Bill Clinton got in trouble for having done to him what every healthy man wishes would be done to him on a nightly basis. There would be a radical reduction in carpal tunnel syndrome in the male population.

Ok ladies, quick question. If you have the opportunity to see Obama or Kristol naked, whom would you chose?

That what I thought, me too....

Mrs. Lieberman please have sex with that man

I am convinced that Joe Lieberman was very unpopular during his formative years. The guys shoved his head in the toilet. The girls made fun of him. He was probably a late bloomer. Meaning that sex did not just occur in his mind. The rejection of the Democratic voters last summer triggered those painful memories.

Like the geek who couldn't get laid, he spread rumors to damage the reputation of the girl who mocked him.

He continues to threaten to become a Republican. His voting record confirms that he already is a Republican.

Leiberman is doing to the country what the popular girl refused to do to him.

Mrs. Lieberman please have sex with your husband, so that he will stop screwing the country.

Sex on the First Date

The netroots community channeled their energy into action with an eye on changing the landscape in our government. They raised a ton of money for the 2006 election. Additionally, they organized ground troops, who knocked on doors, performed lit drops and got out the vote. Mission accomplished. Sort of.

The Democratic party took their money and resources and continue to summarily dismiss them. It is appalling.

Before I proceed, here is my disclaimer: I have, what is deemed, a real job, with a great benefits package. I donate time and money to progressive causes and candidates. My best friend is a working class blogger. I love my newspapers. Because of my insane schedule, I began to rely on her blog for up-to-date, accurate information. As I watched her readership increase, she struggled physically and financially. Some of her readers responded when she held a fundraiser, a few subscribed. What I did witness, more often than not, was the annoyance from her readers at her inability to keep a real job. Or, they were inconvenienced when she did get a "real job." The dreaded Catch-22. Readers wanting the benefit of her labor but did not want to pay for it. Go take a paper from the local 7-11 and not pay for it and see what happens. HMMM a microcosm of the new political world order.

My point is, the Republicans are willing to support their worker bees and mouthpieces. Anne Coulter came out of nowhere to represent the voice of the neocons. Hell, Rick Santorum landed a job in a think tank after losing his job to a netroots supported candidate. My guess is they have health insurance.

What do Dems do when one of their own needs assistance? They provide the following lecture: " My goodness, if you just put together a prettier resume, you can get a real job with benefits like the grownups. In the meantime, give your time and money to the "Consultants" who have not won anything in years." This is intellectually offensive, pretentious, and just plain silly.

Political activism is a business and should be treated as such. What is so wrong with applying a few business practices to your cause? Provide a living wage with basic benefits to those working for the cause. Those who put their nose up at this model have no idea what it is like to be middle America.

The netroots gave their money to the Dems on the first date thereby creating the rules of engagement. The Dems now call when they are looking for in effect a "booty call." Unfortunately, there appears to be gratitude when the call comes. Your time and resources have value.

As my daddy always told me "Keep your panties up, girl. If you have sex on the first date, you have defined rules of the relationship." A good old-fashioned unfair double standard.

The next big event has begun. Now is time for the major players in the blogosphere to change the climate again. My advice to those who weld the most power in this community establish your rules and enforce them.

In the meantime, go find your panties and stop acting like the fat ugly girl in the corner grateful for male attention.

Let's not talk about sex...

Chris Rabb, Chief Evangelist at Afronetizen.com asks the question: Is the RNC ad against Harold Ford, Jr.racist?

Harold Ford, Jr. Is in a tight Senate race in Tennessee. If he wins, it will be the first time that the South sends a black man to the Senate since the time of Reconstruction.

For the last week, the MSM has played segments of this ad over and over again. Ken Mehlman, head of the RNC, initially said that he did not have the authority to pull the ad. I guess he had to ask his supervisor, Karl Rove for permission. Then he downplayed the racial implications of the ad. This is the same man who has spent endless hours reaching out to the black clergy around the country to, at least, split the black vote. Chris Matthews and Tucker Carlson even expressed dismay with the party of Lincoln's need to stoop to such an ad. Eventually, the ad was reportedly pulled.

To respond to question, of course the ad is racist. The Republicans have always played the race card. In close elections, this is their hail Mary play. Why? Because it usually works. The impact will not be known until the ballots are counted.

Like it or not, we spend far too much time in this country worrying about sex. Mind you, in the right setting, I'd be happy to chat about it all night. The right for gays to marry; abortion; unmarried sex and the time tested favorite, black men sleeping with white women; always surface during the election season.

There is this group of self-righteous people who want to dictate when, with whom and how we have sex. They want to punish folks for having sex in a manner that they have deemed unacceptable. This distraction has become the centerpiece of the values movement.

The President with our inept Congress drug us into a war against a country that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks. The brave soldiers, whose lives are being sacrificed, in this game of democracy building last names do not include Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Frist or Kennedy.

Is this a moral value?

Bush baby has simply ignored the Constitution. Our Constitutional rights have been wiped out through a series of bad legislation; executive priviledge interpretation; and the infamous signing statements.

Are these moral values?

In order to give tax breaks to people like me, they have mortgaged my newborn grandbaby's future, by borrowing money from China.

Is this a moral value?

The healthcare benefits that my working class parents took for granted have become a luxury for the average American. The now popular consumer driven insurance products are DESIGNED to discourage use and increase profitability.

Is this a moral value?

Education is the great equalizer. No Child Left Behind has been improperly administered and chronically underfunded. Those who thought this was a good idea, including the yahoos who helped pass this bill, send their children to private schools. Or they live in a community whose property taxes are so high thereby automatically making the school system virtually private.

Is this a moral value?

Illegal Immigration has become the perfect means of outsourcing jobs internally. The employers who make profits by exploiting these workers should be tossed in jail next to gang from Enron. The billions of dollars that these employers do not pay in payroll taxes would finance the tax cuts the Republicans so dearly embrace. The illegals would not be running across the border if there were not jobs to run to. The jobs that Americans refuse to do, would be filled by Americans if they were paid a living wage.

Is this a moral value?

The demise of my marriage to a male was not caused by Fred and Barney's desire to formalize their love.

If Buffy gets an abortion that is between her and her God. It is none of my business.

The issues that are my business are: a bad war; loss of Constitutional rights; poor educational system; folks who are under or unemployed and lack of affordable healthcare for my fellow citizens.

Let's not talk about sex until these real moral value issues have been addressed.
