Frank Rich: Obama Biden, Change we need

The choice of Joe Biden as VP will allay the fear of the Frank Rich types. Obama does not have the luxury of coming off as "angry black man." Sorry folks. Too many white folks get nervous around colored folks who have the audacity of anger.

The Obama camp has show the ability to dispatch surrogates to fight back. Biden is perfect for this role.

As the summer draws to a close,  the final leg of this forever Presidential campaign has begun. We need a leader who is curious enough to embrace technology.

Why do I think McCain has never even turned on a computer, let alone a blackberry?

Young people really need to turn out in record numbers. While you may love your Grandpa desperately, do you want him managing your life let alone the country.

Like no other time, the future of our democracy is at stake.

Senator Joe Biden: The Smart Old White Guy

I fell asleep with my TV on last night. I wasn't sure whether I was dreaming or wishful thinking when I awoke to the news of Obama's VP choice.

I was thrilled.

Senator Joe Biden is truly one of the good guys who made it. At times, I have wanted to choke him. But his words are evidence of his generation.

Has he blundered? Ah who among us hasn't?

Crickets......

Armed with new information concerning the lack of WMDs, he wisely acknowledged his mistake and came out against the war.  He has been offering sound resolution to end this fiasco for years.

He is a working class Joe, who managed to raise his boys while performing his job. He doesn't have to throw back shots to celebrate to be one of the boys.

He can offer a difference of opinion without being acrimonious. Will he punch back? Absolutely. Will he reach out to across the aisle to get something done? You betcha.

Like or not, there is an element of our population, struggle with a black man in a position of authority. Adding a woman to the ticket would simply too much for these citizens.

Obama needed the smart old white guy. Biden is a wise strategic choice. Unlike, the criminals in currently, holding high office, Biden will not set up a separate branch of government.

He was dead on in his speech today. We don't need a heroic soldier, we need a leader.

As for the angry first wives club in our country, who somehow refuse to acknowledge Hillary's poorly run campaign. They really need to get over themselves. Hillary blew it and her sex had NOTHING to do with it.

I want the soul of my country back. The election of this team is a critical first step.

Integrating Sports and Presidential Candidates

Sadly, those who are hurting the worst by the policies of the Bush administration and will suffer under the weight of the McCain's ever changing policies will either sit at home or cast a vote for McCain. Many live in regions where the economy is a disaster. So exactly what tax increases do they fear? Please.

Family values. Wife number two who doesn't even acknowledge her half-sister. Spare me.

Why? For the same reasons, minorities have been held down for years the color of their skin.

At least in the Carolinas, central PA, the heartland of America do not couch it in nuances, their bigotry is heartfelt and sincere. For others it is no doubt deeper then they even know...Oh the Clintons come to mind.

I love my country but is far from perfect and our racist past, present and now is staring us in the face. Good. Acknowledging the issue is the first step of healing.

Our country is a mess. The world around us is very unsettled, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Georgia. The same old, same old is not good enough.

David Baldwin's piece is wonderful as usual.....
BTW I love the sports analogy

Frank Rich: McCain is the Cranky Mr. Wilson

Oh how I remember, the cute Dennis the Menace, would flash a smile and drive Mr. Wilson insane. Frank Rich has drawn a perfect comparison.

Regardless of what Dennis did to his grumpy neighbor, by the end of the episode you still loved the cute Dennis and hated the mean spirited Mr. Wilson.

Of Course, Hillary is a perfect Margaret.

Jackson Apology

There is a generation of black men lost to violence, crime, drugs, alcohol, lack of education and jobs. We are in the middle of a crisis. The response: Jackson and the usual suspects complaining about Obama's Father's Day message.

I just want to scream. The house is burning and far too many people are chatting about how to put it out instead addressing how it started in the first place.

Mothers and girlfriends spend far too much time visiting their sons and lovers in the prison system and at gravesites.

Navigating in a white world is a challenge but retreating, making excuses and criticizing the men who took care of their babies is just silly.

The change must begin within the community. Distributing resources to the schools, churches and community centers is critical. What is critical, is the folks in need actually benefit. Educating the masses is important. Teenagers have no clue what to do with a child, hell there are adults who don't know what to do. A baby coming out of that environment is set up to fail.

Sex education is crucial. These girls should be taught to value their bodies. Boys should be taught to respect these girls as humans, not booty calls.

Cities don't have an exclusive on this human drama, the rural areas are facing the same challenges.

Ignoring very real issues does not make them go away. Even Al Sharpton gets this one.

David Brooks: Newsflash, Obama is a Politician

When did we lose sight of Obama's profession? I am a huge Obama fan, but he is just a man, who has the right to change his mind.

He would be insane to embrace public financing. What changed? We changed. We became part of the process. WE got out volunteered AND sent money.

Like or not, Obama will need the money to counter the 527's. The Clintons and the Republicans have underestimated, the skinny black kid with the big ears.

The public campaign finance issue, is a non-issue.

Obama makes history

I am pleasantly surprised by my country nominating a man who looks like me as the Democratic Presidential nominee. I never in my wildest dreams thought this would occur in my lifetime. It is ironic, I did not think a white woman President was out of reach. It comes down to perspective.

The Clintons' fought a tough fight. After their collective egos heal, they need to endorse Obama.

This election made people passionate about the candidates in this primary season. An active informed citizenry is good for our country. The Clinton supporters need to be angry until this Friday, then think long and hard about supporting McCain.

We have an aging Supreme Court. Do you really want to turn the next two to three judicial appointments over to McCain? Why would you turn your granddaughter's uterus over to his conservative picks?

No further questions.........

Vote for Obama.

The Cardoza 40

h/t Al Giordano......

Maybe this will put a bow around HRC's presidential quest.

Law and Order: Crazy Politicians Unit

According to Booman, this is not the first time HRC has gone there.

This saga has the makings of a bad Law and Order episode................

She is brutal

During this long campaign, the Clintons revealed their true colors. Just when you thought, you seen and heard it all, Clinton speaks.

So what makes this horrible human being think that if something happens to Obama that she would be the candidate. There are other qualified candidates that we as citizens would be happier with...Richardson, Biden and Dodd comes to mind.

I'm trying not to despise her, my yoga is really not working.

Lessons from the Street

Great piece by the Oregon Pundit............

The Clintons are coming to dinner, hide the silver

The Clintons are the embodiment of  the phrase: Money does not equate to class.

Bob Herbert serves as a wonderful historian of  the last hours of the Clinton White House. I had forgotten they stole everything but the light bulbs.

Do your really have to remind a Rhodes School President that you are merely a visitor to the White House? I wonder if they take the sugar from the local diner? I wonder if the nice restaurants in New York involved the policy of checking purses for silverware because of Lady Hillary?

I guess they are those relatives who you always get a knot in your stomach when they visit and are really thrilled to see them go.

Maybe this is where the class warfare is coming from? Having class does not make you an elitist.

Obama is Hillary's General Grant

I guess it never occurred to the Clinton Clan THEY ran a shitty campaign. They were off message and they managed their finances poorly.

I am so bored with their electability argument. They are losing several demographics, not just the ungrateful Negroes. How many minorities in Iowa? Please.

It is amazing how someone so unelectable is winning. The MSM media is feeding the myth of the Clinton Machine. Don't count underestimate the Clintons.

It reminds me of the media driven mythology of General Robert E. Lee. He was a good General. Hell, Lincoln even recruited him. Can you image the war with cable news?

General Robert Lee won several unfought victories based on the inaction of the incompetent Union Generals. They were afraid of his reputation.

The defining moment of the Civil War was a battle in Pennsylvania. At the time, both sides claimed victory. Lee never ventured back North and Meade failed to pursue him.

Eventually, Lincoln took a General who was winning in the west and put him in charge of his army. His tactics were unpopular and non-traditional. The press went crazy. (Sound familiar)

At some point at the waning end of the hard fought war, Lee had to surrender. He simply ran out of resources.

Lee was critical to initial steps at restoration of the Union. He put his country before his ego. Guerrilla warfare could have continued for years. His soldiers were loyal to him. Lee chose the high road.

Grant was compassionate and permitted the surrendering soldiers to keep horses so they could farm. He permitted an honorable surrender.

I'm sure Obama would be willing to give the Clintons a few horse and the manure they've been peddling and send them on their way.

3 am call

The red phone last night in the Clinton camp. On the line was Tim Russert. Does she answer the phone to receive the news?

Should Clinton Quit? Vote Now

David Brooks: Punk in the school yard

Brooks' column brings to mind the little Punk in the school yard. She is usually the little person with the biggest mouth. The target of her terror, the gentle giant. Now the gentle giant is in a lose lose situation. If he responds then he is being a bully. By ignoring her then he is wuss... What a nightmare.

My parents taught us it takes more courage to walk away from the little punk than to engage her..... Easier said than done.

Recess for the Democrats seems forever. Indiana PLEASE ring the bell.

Booman Tribune: Defining Patriotism

Let's see in these difficult economic times, a citizen will consider voting against her best economic interests because of a flag pin?

Is is patriotic to vote for invading a country for no real reason?
Is it patriotic not to provide care for those soldiers who failed to die from their injuries?
Is it patriotic to vote for No Child Left behind?
Is it patriotic to vote for NAFTA?
Is is patriotic to vote for someone who has historically failed to work well with others?

Wrap yourself in a flag and watch our educational system fail to produce graduates who can compete globally.

Wrap yourself in a flag and watch our jobs disappear.

Wrap yourself in a flag and watch prices soar because the oil industry has successfully blocked or derailed alternative fuel sources.
Wrap yourself in a fucking flag as you pray that the bridge your are crossing doesn't collapse....

I need fresh air.....
